Candle making is Scientific
Proper candle making is as much a science as it is an art. We enjoy what we do but we have a perfectionist Candle Master making your soy candles! You would be surprised how much time it takes to research, prepare and actually test the candles that we make.
Our soy wax, fragrances and colours (if applicable) are all accurately measured by us, using laboratory equipment, for each and every soy candle made. This ensures correct soy wax to fragrance proportions for each candle and although being handmade and unique, there is a level of consistency across these variables.
After testing various soy waxes available on the market, we believe that the soy wax we have chosen for our candles outperforms all others based on scent throw, burn performance and purity of wax. These criteria equally apply to our choice of fragrance and jar/container supplier.
Our Soy Wax
Green Scents Soy Wax is made from 100% Pure Soy Beans - purity is guaranteed! There are NO other additives, NO paraffin or beeswax waxes that are mixed with our soy wax. Just Pure, Healthy and Creamy Soy Wax!
The creaminess of our soy wax is just so delightful, coupled with our delicious fragrances, has been described by some of our customers as being "almost edible!". In fact, Green Scents Soy Wax has been classified as Food Grade Quality Soy, meeting Vegan and Kosher criteria as well.
Being made from Pure soy beans, our Unscented Soy Wax candles are ideal for allergy sufferers who cannot tolerate regular paraffin candles, which emit toxic chemicals that are known to cause respiratory irritation amongst other things.
Buyer Beware : Did you know that NOT all soy waxes are equal? There are a range of soy waxes on the market, which include those that are mixed - by either the candlemaker or the manufacturer (sometimes unbeknownst to the candlemaker) - with paraffin or beeswax. What is in fact being sold is a 'Soy Blend' candle and you are not getting what you wanted or value for money.
We GUARANTEE that we have done our 'homework' and that our soy wax is 100% Pure Soy. Our soy wax has received a Certificate of Analysis from a third party accredited laboratory for its purity as well as showing that each kg of wax does NOT contain any Genetically Modified Material, and has NO pesticide or herbicide residue.
We demand the best, and know that our customers do too. We only want to make Premium Soy Candles and done all the preliminary research and preparation to bring you just that.
Our Fragrances
We only use quality, laboratory calibrated fragrances which are made using essential oils as well as non-toxic fragrance oils. The fragrances we have chosen have been made specifically for soy candles and are undiluted ensuring excellent scent throw when burned. Sure, they cost more, but quality is our focus and it is money well spent in the long run! Or to put it another way - you get more bang for your buck!
Our Spa Range Soy Candles use a select range of Aromatherapy Pure Essential Oils sourced from reputable manufacturers and are made specifically for soy wax. This is because Pure Essential oils bought from the local shops are not made for mixing with soy wax.
We 'triple scent' our soy candles which is marketing speak for meaning that our soy candles absorb as much as 3 times more fragrance than regular paraffin candles. We add the maximum amount of fragrance that soy wax can absorb. Any more than the maximum allowable, and the candle risks being a fire hazard (from the excess fragrance oil) or will mushroom smoke - we won't take that risk. Besides the risk, soy wax will only throw a maximum amount of fragrance.
We don't save on fragrance loading - we add the maximum amount of fragrance allowed for soy wax. In doing so, we produce a richly scented candle which is fragranced from top to bottom and with proper burning, you can enjoy indulgent aromatic ambience to the end without any wastage of wax.
It is our opinion (after trying various types of candles) that soy wax is not only healthier but also holds and throws fragrance better than paraffin or other wax candles.
Our Wicks
All of our candles use lead free, 100% cotton wicks. They are absolutely no traces of lead in our wicks.
The Australian Government has banned the use of wicks with what is considered to be unsafe concentrations of lead (greater than 0.06% lead by weight), which was often found in candles made in China or Taiwan. (representing the bulk of candles on the Australian market).
So, we have taken the issue of 'safe' and 'unsafe' concentrations of lead out of the equation (and out of our candles) by only using 100% cotton wicks.
More About Our Soy Wax Candles
With proper burning, you should have hours of aromatic pleasure with our soy candles, with no petro-soot emissions - which means no black walls or lungs!
We prefer our soy candles to be uncoloured, simply because they have such a lovely creamy texture and look natural. However, we are happy to add colour if you wish. This preference is available to you when you order our candles.
We have selected stylish candle jars and containers that are specifically designed to withstand soy candle burning temperatures. This is important so that they do not crack or break when you burn your soy candle.
We are careful with ensuring the safety of our soy candles for your enjoyment, and each Green Scents Soy Candle comes with its own Burning Instructions.
