Processing of Our Soy Wax
Our chosen soybean wax is made from sustainable soy bean crops, whereby selected farmers encourage growth without depletion.
When soy beans are processed, they are crushed and pressed to separate the soybean meal from the soybean oil. In each bushel (27.2kg) approximately 22.2kg of soy meal and 5 kg of soybean oil are produced.
The soy meal contains the soybean protein and it is from this meal that animal feeds and foods for human consumption (such as soy milk, tofu and textured soy protein for vegetarians) are made.
Soy bean wax is made from the soybean oil left over from the bushel. Our soybean manufacturer then purifies the crude soybean oil to give pristine soybean oil which then goes through a process called hydrogenation turning it into a solid. All our waxes are made from soybeans with exacting consistency from batch to batch, even though the actual crops themselves may vary.
Unlike some other soy waxes on the market, our Green Scents Soy wax contains NO paraffin wax (usually mixed into some soy waxes to give a smoother appearance and added strength) and NO beeswax products, making Green Scents soy candles 100% vegetable based and suitable for vegans.
Our soy wax is made from food grade soy bean oil and also meets Kosher Certification criteria.
